AVIA will contribute towards important reforestation

An important cause of the world's deforestation is poor villagers who are forced to cut down trees for construction, fuel, heat, and agricultural purposes. Together with the Eden Reforestation Projects, we will contribute to reduced poverty by giving people work, and reduced climate change by saving the rainforest.

Research from the University of Maryland shows that the world lost an area of tropical rainforest the size of Switzerland in 2019. One of the top reasons for the world's deforestation is poor villagers who are forced to cut down trees for construction, fuel, heat, and agricultural purposes. While this solves a short-term problem for villagers and local communities, long-term consequences arise when forests are cut down and not restored.

AVIA plants 100 trees for every production

From January 2021, all our productions will be climate compensated. For every production we carry out, 100 new trees are planted. We also invite our clients to contribute.

All contributions go to our new partner Eden Reforestation Projects, a non-profit organisation that works to reduce extreme poverty and restores what were once healthy forests by planting trees.

Eden Reforestation Projects uses an "employ to plant" method which entails both positive socio-economic and environmental measures. Poor villagers in nearby communities help plant trees, and thus earn money for a living - and in this way contribute to important reforestation which is important for our climate.

For every production AVIA carries out, we plant 100 new trees in rainforest areas, through our partnership with Eden Reforestation Projects. Together with our customers, we will contribute to reduced poverty by giving people work, and reduced climate change by saving the rainforest.

Greenhouse gas emissions from deforestation are bigger than the emissions from all the world's cars

Deforestation occurs when we cut down, burn and destroy forest areas, so that no new trees grow. This happens, among other things, to make room for pasture for livestock, to obtain timber for furniture, or to make palm oil. Regions most affected by deforestation are poor and underdeveloped areas. The long-term effects of deforestation lead to serious environmental damage. It causes severe flooding, erosion and desertification. Large amounts of carbon are stored in the world's forests. When we burn down the forest, carbon is converted into carbon dioxide.

The "employ to plant" method leads to long-term and successful reforestation

According to Eden Reforestation Projects, there are two things in particular that are important for long-term and successful reforestation. The first is that reforestation must benefit the local population. It is important to work together with local communities to achieve successful and long-lasting reforestation. Eden Reforestation Projects uses an "employ to plant" method, which will benefit the local communities where new forests are planted. By employing poor villagers to plant trees, it creates a synergistic effect in that villagers earn money for food, shelter, clothing and medicine, while contributing to the planting of forests that are important to the world's climate. Financing is also an important factor in successful afforestation. Without donors, business partners and other grants, there is little hope for effective and successful reforestation.

Positive influence is our vision, and part of AVIA's DNA. Our most important climate measures will, among other things, be to reduce unnecessary travel, source sorting, digital workflow, as well as our contributions to Eden Reforestation Projects. We also make demands on our suppliers and partners, in order to influence in a positive direction.

It is important that we take the climate crisis seriously. In the big picture, you may feel powerless when it comes to climate and environmental matters. But small choices can have a big effect. Especially if we do it together.
