Artificial Intelligence (AI): What's happening in the year 2024?

AI generert rom

Imagine a world where your creative ideas come to life in an instant, where content is tailored to the audience, and where film production occurs with speed and precision that was once unimaginable. This isn't science fiction; it's the reality with artificial intelligence (AI) in 2024.

In this article, we explore how AI not only speeds up and enhances the job in content production, filmmaking, and marketing but also how it provides us with new opportunities to tell stories and reach audiences in ways we are just beginning to grasp. For everyone working creatively, this is an exciting (and demanding) time. Join us on a journey through the latest in AI and see how it can enrich and inspire your work.

AI og menneske

When OpenAI launched ChatGPT about a year ago, and Midjourney was released shortly before that, it marked not only a milestone in the development of AI technology but also the beginning of a new era. By 2023, we have already seen how AI has begun to shape our lives and professions. But this is just the beginning. As we move into 2024, we stand on the threshold of an even deeper integration of AI into our daily lives. What should we be aware of when it comes to AI? What exciting AI tools are available? This article provides answers to these questions and explores the path ahead.

The Availability of AI: From Niche Market to Tool for Everyone

AI is no longer just for technology enthusiasts and businesses; it has become a tool for everyone. Many AI tools are now open source, meaning they are available to anyone who wants to explore and create. Why? To ensure rapid development of the technology. There has been a growing discussion around the need for regulations, especially concerning AI-generated images and their place in professional settings. This is an indication that as AI technology becomes more widespread, awareness of its potential impact and consequences is also growing.

In the year 2023, we've seen major news headlines suggesting that AI has taken over too much in certain industries, or at least it appears that way. There has been talk of regulating AI, although we're not entirely sure what this will look like. Likely, we'll see regulations requiring disclosure when an image is generated by artificial intelligence? We can assume that future regulations will include requirements to identify AI-generated images, as highlighted when Sparebank1 used an AI-generated person in an advertising poster, leading to negative attention and potentially undermining customer trust. There are several examples of similar situations where companies have misstepped and learned from it. We'll see more of this going forward!

AVIA has completed several AI productions in 2023, including for Eika Bank, which you can read more about here. In November, we were speakers at the "Kommunikasjonsforeningens høstseminar", where the topics included crisis communication, handling difficult situations, and artificial intelligence. We find that Norway is positive towards AI, but what is often highlighted are the challenges. For instance, NTB discussed the importance of rejecting AI-generated photographs. They aim to implement a scanner that analyzes whether the submitted image is AI-generated or not. This is definitely something we will see more of.

Things as a marketer you should know:

You shouldn't take the development lightly. What's cool and new to use today will be outdated tomorrow. I dare say that future developments will be as whimsical. Elon Musk himself has said that he believes AGI (artificial general intelligence) will be a part of everyone's daily life within 5 years. This means that in 5 years from now, (almost) everyone will use AI in their workplace, privately, in social settings, etc. daily. You should start familiarizing yourself with the various tools available. It's not dangerous to try something and see if it's not useful for you / your company. The most important thing is just to start.

We can expect to produce more content in less time, with some limitations that consumers are likely to learn to accept. Here I am talking about, among other things, product photos generated using AI, portraits generated using AI, text generated by AI (for the record, this is text written entirely by a human) and voice-overs, websites, automatic chatbots, etc., will become part of our everyday life. Already in 2023, we have seen tremendous development, and in 2024, it will accelerate even further.

Things as a content producer you should know:

It's easy to think that AI will eventually replace your job as a content producer. Strongly, I believe this is wrong. What may happen is that a person using AI to produce content may potentially replace you / your tasks. Therefore, I advise you as a content producer to consider the challenges you face today, where can you save time / cost / energy - are there any parts of the production process that can be simplified and further streamlined with the help of AI? I'm sure you will answer yes here.

As we look towards the future, it's clear that AI will play an increasingly significant role in our lives. However, this also brings new challenges. Regulation will be necessary to ensure that the development of AI technology occurs in a responsible and ethical manner. We can expect a future where collaboration between humans and AI is not only common but essential for solving complex problems and exploring new frontiers.

Summary of the key aspects for you as a content producer:

  • Consider the challenges you face and leverage AI for support.
  • The collaboration between AI and humans becomes a significant part of our lives, where regulation becomes necessary to ensure responsible and ethical development of AI technology.
  • AI is here to stay, and it's important to explore ways to implement it into our daily routines.

Can one distinguish between AI and human in 2024?

The technology has progressed tremendously fast, and it will only get faster. Just a couple of weeks ago, an AI agent was launched that can work for you (see link at the bottom of the article). Simply put, you can install an extension for Google Chrome, type in a chatbox what you want the AI assistant to do for you - and then just sit back. This is still very early in development, but one can envision where this will take us.

I envision a future where we humans have to collaborate more. Everyone in a room gets the opportunity to express themselves, either with the help of AI (for example, a person who isn't skilled at drawing can now present drawings and thoughts from their mind). People who struggle with writing can present text generated by AI. In addition, we must acknowledge that those who choose to avoid the use of AI will have to wait in anticipation for the next new development, which potentially could take over their tasks.

The list of AI programs you should be familiar with:

Kick-off meeting:

  • CHATGPT3 The advanced chat tool ChatGPT4 can be used in all parts of a production phase.

Pre-production:

  • Kive.ai – Moodboard and generated storyboard
  • Krisp.ai – Get good audio in video meetings! Here, AI utilizes a technology that removes background noise, fan noise, etc. Can be used on all platforms where video meetings are supported.

Post-production

  • Mubert – Do you need a song, but Epidemic can't provide anything close to what you envision? Try Mubert. Here, you can write a prompt on what the song should contain (or be used for), choose genre, mood, and more. Select the length, and let Mubert generate the song for you.
  • Illustroke – This AI generator can create VECTOR-format graphics. You can open the file (.SVG) like a regular Illustrator file and access all layers. This can be a very useful tool for inspiration. The vector graphics are entirely unique, and only you will have access to what is generated.
  • Eleven Labs – AI voiceover that sounds completely realistic.
  • Runway ML – is the most advanced AI platform (open to everyone to use) that exists. Here, you can explore everything AI has to offer. $28/month (USD)
  • Flair.ai – Upload a transparent image of a product or something you want to create a background for - write what should be in the background and foreground and let Flair do the rest! $10/month (USD)
  • Play.ht – Norwegian voiceover that works surprisingly well!
  • Looka – Here you can generate logo designs (completely free).
